Hey, was looking at some of the local churches as we are actively looking. See that your church participates in the "Rosary". How does the Rosary fit into Biblical teachings on prayer? And does it encompass praying to Mary?
Just quickly, the Rosary is a meditation on the life of Christ as presented in the Gospels, and during the meditation Mary's prayers are sought - "pray for us sinners." So, a very short answer to your question is that the Rosary asks for Mary's prayers in much the same way that we ask for one another's prayers here on earth in this life. The next question obviously concerns what the Creeds mean by "the communion of the saints." Not just us folks who happen to be walking around. The point of all catholic Marian spirituality is to draw closer to Christ, who is Mary's savior and ours. Fair to say, I think, that the Rosary and Marian devotion plays a pretty minor role here at CHC. I would refer you to Fr. Richard John Neuhaus' essay "True Devotion to Mary," prepared as part of the Evangelicals & Catholics Together project, and also consider coming to visit us. Or drop me a line for further discussion - you can find my email address here.
